Tips for Choosing a Chair
People who are more comfortable in their chairs are more likely to be able to sit and be productive for longer durations. Even while you are sitting, you need to keep your body moving. Chairs that do not provide effective support and adjustability can significantly increase the spinal stresses resulting in discomfort and increased injury risk. A properly fitted chair can make adjustments and keep proper circulation throughout the day.
Arm Support
Armrests should adjust to match your elbow height when your elbows are relaxed at your sides. If armrests are too long or high, they will interfere with proper keyboarding position. Your armrests should allow you to keep your elbows relaxed at your sides and should not interfere with access to the work surface. If your armrests do not adjust for proper fit, consider removing them.
Back Support
Backrests should provide adequate back and lumbar support without interfering with your movement. The height and shape of the lumbar support should coincide with the lumbar curve or "the small" of your back, and should provide support without causing localized pressure points.
Seat Support
You should be able to sit with your feet comfortably on the floor or footrest without undue pressure on the underside of the thighs or knees. The seat angle should not cause you to slide forward shifting your weight to the feet. Your chair should allow you to sit in a position equal to or greater than 90 degrees and the area behind your knees should not be touching the seat.

Chair Care
Check hardware periodically and tighten or lubricate if necessary. To prolong the life of your furniture and fabric, always vacuum regularly and clean soiled areas promptly. Blot most spills away with a dry cloth. Stains may be removed with a mild solvent, an upholstery shampoo or the foam from a mild detergent. When using a solvent or dry cleaning product, follow instructions carefully and clean only in a well-ventilated room. Avoid any product that contains tetrachloride or other toxic materials. With any method, pretest a small area before proceeding.
