OWD Achievements

Correctional Industries (CI) recently celebrated the two year anniversary of the formation of our Offender Workforce Development (OWD) team. The goal of CI OWD is to insure every qualified CI offender is ‘work ready’ and employable upon release. CI OWD specialists work directly with offenders during the last 18 months of their sentence. They assist in the development of employment readiness documents, such as resumes and template cover letters, as well as coordinate classroom trainings.

During the past two years, the team has been working hard to establish meaningful relationships with community partners. Community partners are a valuable resource for OWD and can be involved with offender employment preparation both during and after incarceration. Community partners play a key role in the success of CI’s mock interview events. During the past 12 months, CI hosted nine (9) mock interview events which helped prepare 144 offenders for their future employment.

Within the past couple months, OWD broadened the scope of CI offender reentry services to include post-release employment services. The team added two new Community Employment Specialist positions, who work to provide opportunities for businesses to employ skilled men and women releasing from CI. Linking employers with CI’s trained and skilled workers is the next step in the continuum of employment services. CI is hosting an employer forum on October 11, 2016 at the Washington State Fairground Pavilion. There is no cost to participate and interested employers will be provided with information on CI’s unique hiring solution. Click here to learn more or register for the event.
