Charity Golf Tournament

1st Annual Charity Golf Tournament

On September 10th, Correctional Industries hosted its 1st Annual Charity Golf Tournament. All proceeds from the tournament went to support four very important charities; The If Project, FareStart, The Soup Ladies, and The Correctional Peace Officers Association. Kara Withers headed the planning committee, coordinating the 144 golfers and 36 volunteers that made the event possible. Staff from several CI sites provided items or donations to make gift baskets. CI inmate workers got involved too, making several donations for the prize or auction tables.

The morning of the tournament, golfers began arriving for registration, starting at 7:30 am. This meant the group of volunteers needed to be there very early to set up. The day concluded at 5:30 pm with an awards banquet and raffle drawing. Representatives from The If Project, including co-founder and CI Board Member, Kim Bogucki participated in the days events. Kim brought along enough support to have three of her own teams! Kim also spoke at the closing ceremony, along with Eric Boutin from FareStart.

Several of our vendors played as well, including representatives from Keefe, Union Supply, and xFact. We received support from many more of our valued vendors in the form of sponsorship. In all, CI was able to raise nearly $16,000 for the charities. Many CI staff participated, either by playing, volunteering, or visiting the course throughout the day. The 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament planning will begin soon, the event is scheduled for August 19th, 2017 at Eagles Pride Golf Course, Tacoma WA. ■
